How long do Shishito peppers last?

As with any produce item, eating Shishito peppers at their freshest point will assure the best flavor and taste. We recommend keeping Shishito peppers refrigerated (45 degrees or colder); when refrigerated, they can usually last for two weeks (sometimes longer!). Check for signs of decay if you are unsure of the shelf life.

Are Shishito peppers spicy?

Although Shishito peppers are generally a mild chili pepper variety, there is always the possibility that some Shishitos will have more heat or spice to them. As a rule of thumb, you can expect one in ten to have a kick. The heat levels can also be impacted by weather and other variable farming conditions, so it’s always possible to have a very mild or slightly more spicy set!

My Shishito peppers are orange or red. Can I still eat them?

Yes! If you’re super curious about veggies like we are, here’s the detailed explanation behind your peppers: A shishito may turn an orange or red color before it is harvested. This is totally natural, but we prefer to pick them when they are the perfect shades of green. We have several rigorous quality checks to ensure that we are picking mostly green peppers, but more colorful Shishitos may be picked from time to time. Rest assured, these differently-hued peppers are still safe to cook and eat.
